Best paper award - Anup Kale, Zenon Chaczko 'iMuDS: An Internet of Multimodal Data Acquisition and Analysis Systems for Monitoring Urban Waterways'
Freshwater Monitoring is becoming an essential activity due to its limited availability drinking water and increasing presence of various pollutants. A list of many damages caused due to tons of waste added to drinking water sources includes extinction or life threat to many birds and marine life species. Millions of animals die each year due to polluted waterways. Thanks to a new generation of technological concepts like Internet of Things(IoT), wireless sensor network and computer vision which allow us to monitor fresh water sources continuously. A monitoring activity can occur in a larger area of geography to plan actions to minimize the pollution. This article proposes a system architecture for the IoT-based multimodal data acquisition and analysis system. The idea is to deploy a set of sensor clusters in various locations of a waterway to create a network of measuring 'things.' Every cluster can be treated as a 'thing' which has camera sensing modalities for macro level pollution detection with analog sensors to measure microlevel water parameters. The solution involves a low power microprocessor device which has attached to collect a raw data, extract features of the raw data and then transmit to a cloud server for analysis and reporting. A 5G mobile network communication is used for data transmission. The server runs a software framework to analyze and present trends of various parameters such as surface density of water, salinity, temperature, etc. The analysis software framework has a set of computational algorithms to process features supplied by each thing or a node. These algorithms classify features into various classes like floating objects, water salinity level, etc. An experiment to simulate the 'IoT' data acquisition is conducted to validate the proposed solution. Based on a case study, this solution can be used in real life scenario as a feasible solution to track pollution trends in urban waterways.
Author bio: (Anup Kale): Anup Kale received a Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering from The Institution of Engineers Kolkata in India, Master of Software Engineering in distinction grade from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) in Australia during 2009. He is currently pursuing PhD. in Computing at the Global Big Data Technologies Centre under the UTS. He worked as a Teaching and Research Assistant at the UTS during the period 2010 and 2013. His research interests include Multi-modal Data Processing, Internet of Things, Data Mining and Machine Learning. He published many research articles in renown international conferences and journals. His research involves using bio-inspired methods and focuses on evolutionary biological concepts for developing computing models. Specifically, his research explores application of adaptive evolutionary computing models to address problems related to dynamic operating conditions and a moving optimum. His research is driven by identification of suitable biological paradigms, defining and solving corresponding algorithms, as well as, running practical test cases that demonstrate biomimetic in action.

Best Presentation Award - Shahab Tayeb, Shahram Latifi 'Improving Discovery using Meta-heuristic Echolocation'
This paper discusses a meta-heuristic echolocation mathematical model, as a possible method to discover adjacent vehicles and road-side units in a smart transportation setting with levels 3, 4, and 5 autonomous vehicles. The operation of IoAV based on monitoring several parameters as well as major obstacles for the proliferation of level 4 and 5 autonomous vehicles are also analyzed. In this paper, we make the first attempt to analyze autonomous vehicles from a microscopic level, focusing on each vehicle and their communications. Simulation results demonstrated that the proposed model incurs minimal computation and communication overheads.
Author bio (Shahab Tayeb): (B.Sc. Maxima Cum Laude '08, M.Sc. Summa Cum Laude '10, Ph.D. '17 expected) is a research assistant in the Center for Information Technology and Algorithms and in the Big Data Lab at UNLV. He is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, minoring in Computer Science, where he has been awarded numerous national and international scholarships. Prior to joining the Ph.D. program, he was the managing director and instructor at Cisco Networking Academy (2010-2016) where he taught various entry, associate, professional, and expert-level courses. In March 2013, he was recognized as the top 5% expert level instructors globally. He has been invited to deliver train-the-trainer courses in various countries around Europe, Middle East, and Africa. He is a member of ACM, IEEE, ISOC, Teachers without Borders, and NSPE. He also holds several industry certifications CCIE R&S written, CCAI, CCD(A|P), CCN(A|P), and CCNA Security from Cisco; CNSS 4011 Recognition from NSA; TKT from Cambridge; and VMCA-DCV from VMware. He has authored/co-authored several refereed research papers and his research findings have been highlighted by National Science Foundation. His research interests span the areas of Internet of Things, Information Assurance, Cybersecurity, and Wireless Sensor Networks utilizing such tools as Deep Learning, Game Theory, and Big Data Analytics. He has served as a chair or a program committee member at several international conferences and a guest editor and reviewer for several international journals.

Best Student Paper Award - Risa Ogawa, Takayuki Fujimoto 'The Development and Evaluation for Japanese 'Origami' Application with 3D Expression'
'Origami', a Japanese traditional handicraft work, is the very popular art for Japanese. Its Japanesque beauty also has a high rating abroad. It is considered that 'Origami' is a mysterious culture and a characteristic of Japan. In this study, we create the prototype of the 3D system by using a smartphone. We also evaluate the system and examine the utility.
Author bio: (Risa Ogawa): Risa Ogawa was born on March 2nd, 1994. She is Master student, Graduate School of Information Sciences and Arts, Toyo University. She received B.A. degree in Information Sciences and Arts from Toyo University (2016). She research is including the area of Information Design and Media Science.
